Leadership plays a pivotal role in shaping the culture of an organisation, but strategic decisions can sometimes lead to conflicts. The Future Laboratory, a consultancy firm, sought to consolidate after experiencing cost reduction and high employee turnover. They turned to SNH for assistance in rebuilding trust in their leadership team and empowering managers with the necessary tools to enhance productivity, improve staff retention, and foster a culture that everyone could be proud of.

The Challenge

Following a restructure in 2017, The Future Laboratory recognised the need to bridge the gap between their leadership team and the rest of the organisation. They engaged SNH to assist them in cultivating a culture of high productivity, improved staff engagement, and a greater sense of well-being among their workforce.

The Solution

Delivering our Employee Productivity practice, we designed a comprehensive programme centered on company-wide initiatives that fostered togetherness and trust at The Future Laboratory. We conducted two productivity-focused workshops as part of the programme. The first workshop was tailored for leaders and managers, while the second, larger workshop was open to all staff at The Future Laboratory's London headquarters. Our aim was to equip everyone with the necessary tools for improved productivity.

These workshops provided a platform for open and robust discussions, generating energy and excitement among the participants. Importantly, they created a safe and objective forum for staff to collaborate on common goals and explore better ways of working together. Building on the foundation of improved productivity, we then focused on developing core skills for the leadership team to enhance their engagement with their respective teams.


The Outcome

The collaboration between The Future Laboratory and SNH has resulted in the introduction of several impactful initiatives. The implementation of the "It's OK to..." list has brought flexibility to working practices, allowing staff to acknowledge and embrace moments of downtime, self-care, and personal choice. This collective permission to work more fluidly and generate trust has positively impacted the company culture

The Future Laboratory has formally implemented a flexible working programme with core working hours of 11-3, empowering staff to choose working hours that best suit their needs.

As a result of these initiatives, The Future Laboratory has seen a significant improvement in their staff retention rate, which has increased from 63% to 78% since SNH's involvement. This underscores the success of our Employee Productivity practice in creating a more engaged and empowered workforce at The Future Laboratory.
